Camel racing pulled in the crowds to Llangollen

Locals and visitors all headed to Llangollen on Sunday to see some camel racing, the first time an event of it’s kind took place in the town. 4 camels visited and raced during the afternoon providing a spectacular show for all to see.

But it wasn’t just the camels that provided entertainment- the family day had a farm animal area with a cow, calves, sheep and goat for children to see and touch. There was 2 shearing demonstrations with the current World Champion Shearer Richard Jones. There was also a falconry display and a shire horse.

The attractions didn’t stop there- there were vintage tractors, a chainsaw display, falconry display, a dog show and stalls for people to visit.

Families flocked to the field to enjoy a great family day out in the countryside with a very friendly feel on the field.

The family fun day organised by Clwyd 2020, the team that are fundraising as part of Clwyd’s year as the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s Feature County.

Clwyd 2020 would like to thank all involved, especially the landowners and sponsors for their generosity.

Barbara Hughes, the Llangollen and Glyn Ceiriog Fundraising Committee Chair said “Team Clwyd 2020 absolutely smashed it! It was an amazing family day out. Seeing all the children taking part in the activities tug of war, falconry display and getting close to the animals was particularly good to see”.

“The camel racing proved a hit with everyone gathering round to watch the races and see them in action”

“We are getting great feedback via the facebook page and website, with many calling for more similar events like these.”
